Springfield's hottest new attraction, which opened in April 2005, welcomes a half million visitors a year. The Museum and Library, as well as Union Station and Union Square Park, are administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency which also runs many other Lincoln sites including the Old State Capitol, Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices, Lincoln Tomb and Lincoln's New Salem. Not surprisingly, the quality of scholarship in the museum matches that of its showmanship, with exhibits and shows to satisfy all age groups. This is also a state-of-the-art facility in terms of accessibility. The museum's theatres not only have assistive listening systems, but also reflective captioning and audio description. And in the Union Theatre, when the seats shake during the Civil War battles, so do the wheelchair spaces.
