The Illinois Senior Olympics, based in Springfield, began in 1977 and are the oldest State Games in the U.S. The goal of the Senior Olympics is to promote healthy life styles and fitness for adults. They are open to all men and women 50 years and older, with 30 event categories and team sports to choose from. Over 1000 seniors participate annually in over 60 events throughout the Springfield area. The Illinois games are coordinated by the Springfield Park District.
