Abraham Lincoln had several law offices during his years in Springfield but the only structure still standing is at the corner of Sixth and Adams. Visitors can see recreations of his third floor offices, shared with partner William Herndon, as well as a Federal Court on the second floor and post office on the first floor. The tour begins with an orientation video (uncaptioned) and exhibits on Lincoln's legal career and life on the Eighth Judicial Circuit. As in Lincoln's day, Tinsley Dry Goods occupies a portion of the building's ground floor. This store, now a gift shop, at 209 S. Sixth is actually the accessible entrance for the site. A buzzer at the door summons an escort to lead visitors up the ramp and into the first floor exhibit area. Tinsley's also has an elevator for access to the upper stories and a wheelchair accessible restroom.
