From 1853 until his death in 1865, Abraham Lincoln banked with the Springfield Marine and Fire Insurance Company, now Chase Bank. Lincoln's original account ledger showing his initial deposit of $310 and subsequent household expenditures is on display in the lobby of the Chase Bank opposite the Old State Capitol. Unfortunately the elaborate glass-topped bronze case with images of Lincoln as a rail splitter, surveyor and state legislator is too tall to allow visitors in wheelchairs to see the ledger itself. The exhibit may be visited during banking hours.
