Art Galleries

Springfield has a lively arts scene with a number of galleries and stores featuring the works of local artisans. Located within a few blocks of the Old State Capitol are The Blue Door, Robert Morris Gallery, Studio on the Sixth, Tinsley Dry Goods and Trout Lily Cafe as well as the Prairie Art Alliance. These and other stores and restaurants participate in the Downtown Springfield Art Walk, usually held one evening per month from April to October.

In addition, art lovers should not miss the Museum Store at the Illinois State Museum, featuring works by members of the Illinois Artisans Program, or the Springfield Art Association Gallery of Art. The latter is located at the Edwards Place historic home, owned and run by the Association, just north of downtown. Longer term visitors and residents may want to take advantage of the reasonably priced art classes and workshops offered by the Springfield Art Association and the Prairie Art Alliance. These cater to all ages and are held in wheelchair accessible classrooms.
