The YMCA is an accessible facility with exercise and sports programs catering to all ages and abilities and staff members trained in adaptive physical education. With advance notice, a pool lift can be made available during any scheduled family swim time. Their Special Needs Aquatic Program (SNAP) targets individuals with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other disabilities. Other adaptive programming includes an all-in-one exercise class with universal weights, walking track and stationary bikes; a gentle stretching chair exercise class; individual exercise; and personal training. The YMCA also has a bowling league for people with disabilities, the Saturday Strikers, who meet each Saturday from 2:30-4:30pm at AMF Laketown Lanes. Ramps and guides are provided and participants may bowl two games free. For older members or those with arthritis, the YMCA offers various aquatic exercise programs that burn calories and increase range of motion without putting stress on joints. One new offering for 2010 is sign language classes.
