Springfield is not only home to the Illinois State Fair each August, but also dozens of other colorful and exciting events throughout the year. Music festivals such as the Old Capitol Blues & BBQ and the Greater Downstate Indoor Bluegrass Music Festival draw large crowds, as do the Capital City Celebration for the 4th of July and the Taste of Downtown, a culinary extravaganza featuring more than 25 downtown restaurants.

For art lovers there are crafts fairs, the Old Capitol Art Fair and Edwards Place Fine Art Fair, as well as the evening Art Walks organized by Downtown Springfield, Inc. For motor sports and automotive enthusiasts, there are numerous Motorcycle Races at the IL State Fairgrounds, the International Route 66 Mother Road Festival and the HOT ROD Magazine Power Tour. Sporting events also abound. In addition to the Springfield Sliders and Jr. Blues games, Springfield hosts the annual Iron Abe Triathlon and Capital City Century Bicycle Ride as well as national tournaments.

The numerous attractions listed in Easy Access Springfield each have their own roster of special events. And with three major indoor performance spaces—Prairie Capital Convention Center, Sangamon Auditorium and Hoogland Center for the Arts—there's always something to do or see in Springfield, even in winter.
