- Springfield Mass Transit District—SMTD
- The SMTD provides public bus transportation on 13 fixed routes during the day Monday through Saturday and on 3 fixed routes at night Monday through Friday. Most buses are lift-equipped or have ramps. All routes are accessible, but some trips may not be. For riders' convenience, these are clearly identified on SMTD schedules, available online. All trips at night and on the Historic Sites route are accessible.

- SMTD Historic Sites Bus Route
- The Historic Sites route serves the main tourist sites in Springfield from Lincoln's Tomb in Oak Ridge Cemetery in the north to Dana Thomas House in the south, 21 attractions in all. There are also stops at the downtown hotels—Abraham Lincoln, Hilton, Mansion View Inn and State House Inn. A brochure with a map and schedule may be picked up at any of Springfield's Visitor Centers or downloaded online. Day Tickets, available from the driver, allow riders to reboard as frequently as they like on the day of issue and are good on all SMTD routes. All service on this route is wheelchair accessible.

- Springfield Trolley Tours
- The trolley, which runs daily between 9 different locations, offers both a convenient way to get from site to site and an informative, narrative tour. Stops include Lincoln’s Home & Visitors Center, Dana-Thomas House, IL State Museum, IL State Capitol Complex Visitors Center, IL State Capitol Building, Old State Capitol Plaza/Tinsley Dry Goods Store, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, Lincoln’s Tomb, and the Lincoln Souvenir & Gift Shop. Trolley tickets are available at the Lincoln Home Visitors Center, the IL State Museum, and Tinsley Dry Goods. All trolleys are lift-equipped. Group rates and private charters are available.
